What is Link?

Knowledge Management, Relationship Management, Workflow Management

Link is a groupware application for managing teamwork and communication and it can be configured to any business process. It can be run Windows stand-alone, on a local network, over the internet (with eLink) or via WAP and PDA. It incorporates a host of functionality including:

Knowledge Management: a Corporate Intranet with all team activities (emails, phone calls, meetings) recorded centrally, bringing knowledge to the whole team. And its Document Management, including any OLE 2.0 file (e.g. Word, scanned documents, images, PowerPoint files, Web Pages) brings this knowledge to a Paperless Office.

Relationship Management: initially a top-quality Personal Information Manager (PIM) i.e. contact cards, names, addresses etc. But Link is then customised to fit the particular requirement of individual businesses, to include searchable fields for any data the organisation specifically needs to record, enabling Sales Force Automation, Contact Management etc. This data can then interface with the Internet, MS Outlook for email, MS Word for mail-merges and, with eLINK, ANY corporate technology (ERP, SOP, Accounts, Manufacturing, CTI).

Workflow and Project Management: the planning, schedule and control of projects, where processes unique to particular business functions are designed into the system, allowing actions to be triggered and recorded.

Available on all Windows platforms, Link’s intuitive GUI lets users feel immediately at home. It also offers unrivalled system security, including a dedicated user profile which controls every function that the user is allowed to perform.

eLink

As well as the Windows version installed locally, all the modules of the database can be viewed real time over the internet, connecting via eLink, fully exploiting the opportunities of e-business. Based on reliable, open-source web-enabled standards, it automatically:

  • runs on ANY hardware device which can connect to the internet (i.e. not just PC, NT)

  • reaches out to any workstation with internet access, whether locally or remotely

  • allows satellite offices in multi-national environments to be on-line immediately and permanently

  • gives access to the whole system, including all data files, from anywhere in the world, 24-hours a day

  • provides a corporate intranet or extranet with the minimum outlay

  • can interface with ANY software application (ERP, SOP, Accounts, Manufacturing, CTI)

Link operates through its 7 Entry Points

Implementation: From Generic to Vertical Market Solutions

Link's unique configuration tool means it can be customised to any business process. To get Started and demonstrate the power of Link, Vertical Market versions are offered with ready-to-use foundation processes included.

However, individual businesses have individual processes. Indeed, preserving these keep individual competitive advantage in a time when competitors are dummying-down to the same pre-defined processes found in off-the shelf software. Link’s advantage is that whilst its Vertical Market versions are a proven and packaged foundation, it can be completely customised to fit your competitive processes.

Depending on your individual requirements, we will work with you throughout: Business Workflow / Analysis, Configuration, Documentation, Data Conversion, Installation, Training, Live Implementation, Support.

As such, implementations are either off-the shelf solutions or a seamless transition mirroring your existing systems.

The Vertical Market solutions are fully working versions that can just be plugged in. Training is simple as Link works like you do, backed by User Manuals and On-Line Help. Data transfer from existing systems is a standard procedure. You can be using the product productively in a couple of hours. In both cases, when your business grows Link can be designed to grow with it - scalability allowing growth to limitless users and evolving functionality.

Once installed it includes all the development tools to amend the database, designs, letters and reports. There is no need to employ Database Administrators - maintenance or enhancements can be done by non-specialists and support is always there. If you do employ DBAs only SQL skills are needed or training programmes are at hand.

With Link, Start's Technical Consultants have experience on the full range of vertical market solutions.

Training, Retail, Research, Government Agencies, Business Administration, Import / Export, Management Consultancy, Human Resources, Recruitment, Advertising, Public Relations, Direct Marketing, Engineering, IT, Manufacturing (Metal Refining, Chemical, Automotive, Textiles, Building Materials), Construction, Business Travel, Conference Organisation, Call Centres (CTI), Legal (CaseLink), Insurance, Banking.

Why Link?

Find anything, share anything, use anything

Organisations rely on individuals to work in teams on different business processes as part of a corporate whole.

Team workstations may be networked but the huge and varied amount of data team members generate often isn’t.

Team members use a variety of different software applications which generate files of different types which are saved in a variety of places, be it their own My Documents, or grouped together on local drives by application or department. They also use a variety of other tools, such as email, telephones, varying types of computers and paper documents (hand written or typed) and store this data in a similarly wide variety of places, be it their Outlook Personal Folders, in notes on their desk, or in a filing cabinet in their office. They also often do their work in a variety of locations. The growth of the Internet is only serving to increase the rate of electronic overload.

It is even rare to have a defined information flow. Corporations may spend vast sums on analysis to map it, but these often fail as their processes are often so unique a design for all of them is too complex.

All this data is just information. Information only becomes knowledge when it is available to everyone.

Link is the answer to information overload because its high-quality, affordable and easy-to-use Knowledge Management solution can store all types of information centrally, so it becomes available to teams.

It then manages the projects and workflow of the individuals and team-members and records specific information which is important to the business.

It provides a set of tools, such as

multi-user agendas

document templates

e-mail boxes

Contact, Project and Company managers

To-Do Lists

and Document Library

facilities which enable team members and teams to effectively use the organization’s centralized knowledge base.

By transforming information into knowledge, an organisation can eliminate the duplication of data and increase the consistency, quality and responsiveness of the way it deals with its customers, competitors and suppliers.

With Link there is no defined information flow, nor any complicated design. The information is just there. Corporate data is centralised by a revolutionary work environment in which every piece of information is filed intuitively, every document is immediately available and every task to be done is clearly defined and scheduled.

Link's technology allows everyone in your team to manage their work. It centralises corporate data and provides the necessary connections between all of the software applications already used by the company. Link wraps around your company's data and provides the essential gateways to access it.

Knowledge Management

Link acts as a File Manager for the whole organisation. All files a company deals with can be run by 4 of its 7 entry points - Mail Box (Emails), Document List, To Do List (e.g. Telephone Calls) and Agenda (Meetings). When trying to save these files on a central server, the normal problem is that users do not understand the file structure so they end up saving locally to their My Documents, which in turn means the file is exclusive to them. However, with Link, everything is saved centrally on the server but the file structure is common sense – files are just saved against anything the file interacts with, and this will either be a Company, a Contact or a Project.

Relationship Management

The recording of names and addresses for Companies and Contacts is still critical so standard fields for Companies and Contacts include these. This is enhanced because Link interfaces with email, MS Office for Word Mail Merges, as well as CTI and PDA.

However, Relationship Management is much more than recording names and addresses. Link allows limitless fields, configurable to any business,  be it sizes, codes, prices, regions, product types, photos etc. Fields can be Check Boxes, Drop-Down Lists, Memo fields, Edit fields, Date fields, Number Fields, Currency Fields, Images etc.

All fields are fully searchable in any combination and this data can then be used in Link, or exported to any other application, from standard MS Office products to ERP, Accounts, Manufacturing etc.

Workflow and Project Management

Defined Workflow procedures are configured into Link specific to particular needs. These workflow Job Cards record a history of activity through the process for statistical purposes and prompts trigger every next step.

Processes can either be undefined, such as simple To-Dos created individually by users which roll-over until the action is completed. Agendas, both individual and group, also interact with all Companies, Contacts and Projects.

Fixed processes can either be one-dimensional i.e. progressing a stand-alone step in a project or two-dimensional i.e. progressing steps in projects where any number of Companies, Contacts or Projects are interacting together.

More complicated or automated workflow can be scripted if required.

Link Software Users

As such, whilst we demonstrate everything that the Vertical Market versions can do, this is just the Start.
